The western most point of the European continent, Cabo da Roca, is one of the most spectacular locations in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The landscape is dominated by the Serra de Sintra that is covered by enrich vegetation.
Praia Grande, Adraga, Samarra, Praia das Maçãs and Guincho are just some of the beaches you can enjoy. Guincho offers excellent conditions for windsurfing, surfing and bodyboarding or simply for relaxing by the sea.
The area now designated as Sintra-Cascais is renowned for its culinary bounty. Pork, lamb and veal graze in the area’s verdant flats. Fresh fish and shellfish, such as bass, bream, mussels, and scarlet shrimp, are caught by fishermen along the spectacular stretch of Atlantic coast, with its rugged cliffs, crashing waves and near-empty stretches of sandy beach. The vineyards of Colares, the westernmost wine region in continental Europe, snake through sand dunes.
Last but not least, Sintra became a summer residence for kings, noblemen, and wealthy members of the bourgeoisie, and it still preserves a remarkable architectural heritage. Because of its harmonious blend with nature, UNESCO designated Sintra a World Heritage Site in the cultural landscape category. Its distinctive microclimate is one of the reasons the park is such a special place.
